“Customer service is not a support function, it is the reason we exist.”
For more than four decades, Amalgamated Security Services Limited (ASSL) has built its reputation on one simple philosophy:
Â
“Customer service is not a support function, it is the reason we exist.”
Â
This guiding principle was recognized internationally in “Lessons in Customer Service by Way of the Caribbean,” published by Ron Davis of the Davis Group in 2012. In the article, Davis recounts how ASSL transformed from a single-employee guarding company into one of the Caribbean’s largest and most respected integrated security organizations by placing customer satisfaction at the centre of every decision.
Â
During his visit to Trinidad and Tobago, Davis witnessed a culture where every new customer received personal follow-up until they were completely satisfied and where the company’s leadership remained personally involved in resolving customer concerns. He concluded that ASSL’s extraordinary growth was driven not only by innovation and operational excellence, but by an unwavering commitment to customer care.
Â
The publication also recognized ASSL’s dedication to serving the wider community, highlighting the company’s willingness to provide critical expertise, including hostage negotiation support, without charge when lives and communities are at stake. It reflects a philosophy that true leadership is measured not only by business success, but by service to society.
Â
Recognizing the strength of this customer-first culture, Ron Davis predicted that the industry would soon be hearing much more about ASSL as it expanded beyond the Caribbean into the United States. He challenged security companies everywhere with these words:
Â
“What can you give back to the community? How can you improve customer service? How can you build your business as a model for every other firm in the industry? You can either fly down to Trinidad and Tobago as we did—they will be happy to show you around and answer questions—or wait a little while and see if the company can replicate their success in the U.S.”
Â
More than a decade later, that prediction has become reality. ASSL has expanded its presence into the United States while continuing to uphold the same customer-first philosophy that earned international recognition.
Â
ASSL’s influence extends well beyond the markets it serves. As an early signatory to the International Code of Conduct for Private Security Service Providers (ICoC), the company has helped advance ethical and accountable private security worldwide. In 2015, Pamela Hosein, then an ASSL Director, was elected to the Board of Directors of the International Code of Conduct Association (ICoCA) in Switzerland, representing private security companies outside the United States and the United Kingdom and contributing to the development of global governance and policy for the industry. This milestone reflects ASSL’s longstanding commitment not only to operational excellence, but also to helping shape international standards for responsible private security. Built on a foundation of integrity, innovation, professionalism, and service, we remain committed to setting the benchmark for security excellence and delivering on the promise that has guided us since 1983:
Â
For us, exceptional customer service isn’t just part of what we do, it is who we are.
